Unto Us a Son is Given

As we let you know last year we were told by our doctor that we had very little chance of having a child on our own, so the beginning of the year we were finalizing the paper-work needed for adoption and getting ready for a long wait.
In early April, Barbara decided to take a pregnancy test and to all of our surprise we were expecting.
According to Barbara the pregnancy was pretty easy. After hearing all of the stories from friends, she thinks she got off easy.On Dec 4th at 5am Barbara’s water broke, but the contractions were pretty light and far apart so we waited a while before we went to the hospital. 11 hours later the contractions were a little stronger and we proceeded to the hospital. Unfortunately, there was not much progression made and we decided to try Pitocin. This helped and we had good progression until about 3am on Dec. 5th. Unfortunately the contractions kept coming, but at 8am no further progress had been made. Now I do not know how Barbara had made it this far with no sleep for 27 hours and under hard labor for 10 hours without pain medication, but she’d reached her breaking point. She needed sleep, so we talked to the anasticiologist and he suggested the best thing to let Barbara sleep would be an epidural. Three minutes after the epidural Barbara was asleep. They checked Barbara after 2 hours and found no progression. It was now 29 hours since the baby’s water had broke, and they usually don’t let it go more then 24 hours so we were strongly pushed to have a c- section.
Less then an hour after agreeing to the c-section Justin was born at 11:17 am on Dec 5th. I was able to be in the room and watch them pull Justin out of Barbara’s belly. He weighed 7.9 pounds and was 20 1/4 in long.
Barbara’s a trooper and on Dec 7th we left the Hospital with our Beautiful Son Justin, and after the first hard night, it’s been pretty smooth sailing.

Jamming out for Pete's B-day

For Pete's birthday I got him Rock Band 2. We had a bunch of friends over to play. We all stayed up way too late jamming out but it was lots of fun. Molly was very happy that Toby didn't decide to sing with her this time (and so were we). Emily and Steve were new to the game but caught on quickly and made it even more fun. Jake rock more than any of us and was able to play expert on guitar which Pete and I can't get passed medium so we were embarrassed. Elliot got us all to sing at least once. Elliot got a 99% on singing "Give It Away", go Elliot!!! Pete played expert on the drums once (of course we were in no fail mode, so does that count?). All in all I must say it was a great night for our band.

Expecting Justin Peter Mills

Peter and I have been so excited during these last 8 months to be expecting a child. We couldn't be happier to have this opportunity to be parents. Justin moves all the time and there is much anticipation for what he may look like. I can not fully express the excitement and anxiety pregnancy has created in our home. I am sure the birth will bring even more. I have gone though extreme nesting periods in which I have scrubbed grout with a toothbrush and have driven Peter mad with the consist want/need to have surfaces clean. In reality sometimes I drive myself mad. I worked for most of my pregnancy I only stopped two weeks ago. We wonder what our dogs are going to do when the baby arrives but we are fairly confident they will be all over him within moments and probably a little too protective too.

Painting the Pregnant Belly

For Halloween Peter really wanted to paint my belly like a pumpkin. Of course I thought this was ridiculous but then he found a picture of another woman who did it and it was kind of cute. So I finally agreed and the outcome was good. Everyone liked it at the party we went to and thought it was extremely funny when I laughed because the pumpkin laughed as well. Peter had a lot of fun painting my belly as well.
